Sile's Take on Atkins Diet
As the Atkins diet has advantages, it also has disadvantages. These disadvantages tend to overlap the advantages of the diet.
-
The diet is very limiting (Stop Feeling Bad, 2017): The diet has a lot of restrictions which will make it hard to keep up with.
-
Many nutritional meals are cut off in the fad diet (Beautips, 2017): Carbohydrates are used by the body for energy supply. Cutting it from the diet, will lead to decreased energy supply because carbohydrates are essential nutrients and therefore cannot be synthesized by the body.
-
This diet can lead to temptation: The restrictions of the diet makes it easy for individuals to be tempted out of the diet. When too many restrictions are placed, temptations will increase and most people cannot resist temptation when it comes to food.
-
Weight lost during the process of the diet is most likely to be gained back because it is hard to keep to the diet on the long term, especially after gaining the desired weight (Beautips, 2017).
-
Constipation: Because of the limitation of vegetables, grains, and fruits in the diet, the level of fibre in the body is drastically reduced. This reduction in fibre leads to constipation.
-
The level of minerals and vitamins in this diet is low because of the low level of fruits and vegetables(Beautips, 2017).
-
The level of fat intake in this diet is high (Beautips, 2017). This is mainly because meals that are high in protein tend to be high in fats also and too much fats in the system can lead to cardiac issues (Beautips, 2017).
